The Seer Chronicles: The Deal

PANEL 1
The time is 4 pm in Seer City. The sun begins to set on the PSYCORP BUILDING (a large skyscraper surrounded by meticulous landscaping, a long walkway and a decorated fountain on site).
PANEL 2
Psycorp employees can be seen leaving work for the day.
PANEL 3
Inside Psycorp’s laboratory a CHEMIST (male, messy blonde hair, glasses and wearing a lab coat) is obsessively focused on his research. Behind the chemist, the laboratory doorway is left open. A JANITOR (with short grey hair, a mustache and wearing a blue jumpsuit) passes the doorway to the laboratory.
CHEMIST
“Another late day I guess”
PANEL 4
The Janitor returns to the doorway of the laboratory to see the chemist.
JANITOR
Oh, you’re still here?
CHEMIST
Not now Bill, I am extremely busy!
BILL
Okay Paul, have a good night then.
PAUL
And Bill?
BILL
Yes Paul?

PAUL
…tell the wife I said hello.
BILL
Okay Paul.
PANEL 5
Paul shuts the door to the laboratory and is seen with the door to his back.
PAUL
(Mumbles to himself.)
Hopefully she doesn’t come down here again tonight.

PANEL 6
                (Outside the building, fifteen minutes later.)
The Psycorp building explodes and Paul narrowly escapes the blasts of the building behind him.
PANEL 7
Police cars, fire trucks and paramedic vehicles arrive to the explosion.
PANEL 8
Paul is seen running to get the authorities’ attention.
PAUL
There’s still someone in there!
FIREFIGHTER CHIEF
Calm down sir, we will help whoever we can as soon as we can.
PAUL
Quickly! You must save him…

FIREFIGHTER CHIEF
(Cutting in.)
I said you need to calm down!
PANEL 9
FIREFIGHTER 1 (in his thirties, brown hair) runs in to the building.
FIREFIGHTER 2
(O/S)
John wait the building is too far gone!

PANEL 10
                (Inside the burning Psycorp building.)
Firefighter 1, surrounded by flames, searches through debris.
BILL
(O/S)
Is someone there? Help, I’m trapped!

(JOHN holds out arm to grab him)

(Ceiling falls on JOHN)

(PSYCORP building collapses)

RICK
John!

Panel 15
(A man in a police uniform with a sergeant badge with the name JOSEPH MOQ is questioning PAUL.)
JOSEPH MOQ
What exactly caused the explosion?
PAUL
I don’t know there was a malfunction on what I was working on, some chemical dropped; I don’t know I’m sorry it all happened too quickly.
JOSEPH MOQ
I’m going to need you to come with me just to get a few answers.
PAUL
Oh, uh alright…

(JOSEPH MOQ escorts PAUL to police car.)

(RICK stares at the destroyed building in disbelief.)

                                                                                     FIREFIGHTER CHIEF
Alright, everyone on my crew head back to the station!
(RICK turns around to look at the FIREFIGHTER CHIEF.)

RICK
Are you fucking kidding me?
                                                                                     FIREFIGHTER CHEIF
RICK, that is enough, I know JOHN was your best friend, but he is buried under all that debris.

RICK
Exactly, that is our job to help look he could have survived!

FIREFIGHTER CHIEF
Head back to the station now or I have no other choice than suspending you.
Panel 20
RICK nudges the CHIEF’S shoulder with his as they cross paths.
Panel 21
Fire trucks leave area as forensics is surveying area.
Panel 22
(A few hours pass by and now an orange glow appears from under the debris.)
Panel 23
A blackened hand rises from the debris.
